Monday Night Football: Commanders at Eagles | LineStar NFL DFS Primetime Preview 📺

An NFC East showdown lands on the docket tonight. It’s a bit of a David vs. Goliath match-up, with the undefeated Eagles hosting the 4-5 Commanders in Philly. This Washington team may be +10.5 underdogs but they’ve been scrappy with Taylor Heinicke at the helm for the last three weeks! Let’s get into some DFS plays and props to lock in tonight!

Players & Stacks to Consider

Top Captains and Core Flex Plays:

QB Jalen Hurts: Naturally, Hurts is the most expensive option on this single-game slate but he provides the highest fantasy floor with an excellent ceiling. When he went up against Washington in week three, he put up 340 yards passing with three TDs and scampered for an additional 20 yards on the ground. Hurts’ rushing numbers have declined in recent weeks but this Commanders defense is quite effective at applying pressure to the QB. Their 26.6% pressure% ranks 3rd in the NFL so it’s possible they can force Hurts into more scrambling plays. Washington is dealing with some injuries to their linebacking corps so, if they plan to use a QB spy on Hurts tonight, it may be with a player who entered the season as a backup.

WR AJ Brown: AJB may be the only player who could reasonably outscore Hurts in tonight’s match-up, though they will obviously correlate well directly if you can find the salary to stack them both. The Eagles are not a high pass volume offense (48.8% pass play%, ranks 28th) but Brown is the clear top option when they do go to the air. He owns an excellent 30.1% TGT% on the season and has been a heavily favored redzone target, where his TGT% goes up to a team-leading 40.7%. Brown caught 5-of-10 targets for 85 yards and a TD against the Commanders earlier this season and we can be on the lookout for a similar performance out of him this evening -- though, if he were to receive 10+ targets again tonight, he’s likely going to bring down more than five receptions.

QB Taylor Heinicke: Heinicke, AKA “everyone’s favorite scrappy QB,” is in line for his fourth consecutive start in place of the injured Carson Wentz. He has posted performances that have netted him 15.44 DKFP, 23.06 DKFP, and 14.66 DKFP over the last three weeks, so he has shown a solid floor/ceiling. He’s also a QB that does have the ability to tack on some rushing yardage as well. The Eagles represent a difficult match-up (2nd fewest FPPG allowed to QBs) but the Commanders will likely be playing “keep up” for much of the night so Heinicke and the Washington passing attack will need to stay aggressive for all four quarters.

Flex Plays and Leverage Captain Options:

RB Miles Sanders: Sanders has only scored above 15.3 DKFP twice this season, but he tends to provide a solid floor with steady volume of around 15-18 carries per game. The lack of any major receiving upside is a bummer, but he’s a good bet to account for a touchdown, as he has done in three consecutive weeks and 5-of-8 games this season. Washington is a fairly solid run defense that allows the 13th fewest FPPG to RBs, but the Eagles are going to move the ball regardless, and Sanders can make his impact felt in the redzone.

TE Dallas Goedert: Goedert is a very trustworthy target on this Eagles offense. He often slides in as the No. 2 option in the passing game (21.8% TGT%), and he has caught an impressive 80% of his targets this season. Goedert has secured at least 11.6 DKFP in six of the last seven games, and while the Commanders have been very stout against TEs (fewest FPPG allowed), some defensive injuries may improve Goedert’s chances of posting up a big game tonight.

WR Curtis Samuel: Terry McLaurin will have his hands full with Darius Slay (likely to shadow) so we can upgrade Curtis Samuel here. Normally, it’d be a tough match-up out of the slot against Eagles slot CB Avonte Maddox, but Maddox is out tonight with a hamstring injury. Since Heinicke has taken over as the starting QB, Samuel has scored 17.1 DKFP, 10.9 DKFP, and 12.9 DKFP while mixing in some rushing work as well.

Flex Fillers, Fliers, and Sleepers:

Eagles D/ST: The Eagles' defense could cause some chaos tonight. They’re at home in primetime and will get to go up against a Commanders team with a banged-up O-Line that could be missing multiple starters. D/STs are averaging 8.4 FPPG against Washington this season and, if you recall, the Eagles defense dominated Washington in week three while racking up nine sacks, and a fumble, and allowing just six points.

WR Jahan Dotson: The rookie has missed the last five games with a hamstring injury, but after getting full practices in over the last couple of days, Dotson looks likely to suit up tonight. Dotson got off to a hot start in his first NFL season catching four touchdowns over his first four games. We haven’t seen Dotson and Heinicke play together so some on-field chemistry will need to be developed, but he is a much-needed playmaker who brings some boom-or-bust potential to lineups tonight.

K Jake Elliot OR K Joey Slye: Neither kicker is an exciting option and both of these guys have just one game this season where they’ve scored double-digit fantasy points. Still, a 43.5 O/U typically leads to more FGs than TDs, so we’ll keep both guys in play tonight. There are no wind issues to worry about tonight in Philly either.

WR Cam Sims: Consider Sims to be nothing more than a minimum-priced lottery ticket, but at only $200, he doesn’t need to do much to return value. He has played 65% of snaps over the last four weeks, though Dotson’s return will eat into Sims’ time on the field. He may only catch one or two passes tonight but maybe for a big gain or a touchdown… anything is possible in these primetime games!

Stack Concepts:

Note: [*Player Name] indicates captain selection.

*QB Jalen Hurts, WR AJ Brown, TE Dallas Goedert: It’ll be pricey, but here is a high floor/high ceiling CPTN Hurts double stack to consider.

*WR AJ Brown, QB Jalen Hurts, WR Curtis Samuel: As mentioned above, AJ Brown is probably the only player that could realistically outscore Hurts tonight so he’s an obvious captain candidate. I would have a hard time *not* stacking Hurts with him in the FLEX, but we can run it back with a fairly affordable option like Curtis Samuel on the other side.

*QB Taylor Heinicke, WR Curtis Samuel, WR Jahan Dotson: Very much a GPP stack but Heinicke has shown that he can support multiple receivers in games. If he has a strong night rushing, it’s not the biggest stretch to assume he could end the night as the optimal captain.

*RB Miles Sanders, Eagles D/ST, K Jake Elliot: Sanders will likely need multiple TDs to end up as the optimal captain, but he did accomplish that in week four, and the game script should play in his favor as well.

5-1 Eagles "Smash" Stacks: Washington could definitely make this game more competitive than many would predict, but if the Eagles come out and just smash the Commanders as they did in week three, then that could open up the window for 5-1 Eagles “smash” builds to becoming viable, perhaps even optimal.
