Week 15 Top Plays - 🍪SPECIAL EDITION 🍪

QB:

  • Alex Smith, KC (vs LAC)The Chargers are ranked 3rd against Quarterbacks on the season but these two division rivals know each other well and Smith has managed 2 TDs in each of the last 3 contests. Both of these teams are tied with a 7-6 record and looking to take the division lead here, so it's going to be a slug-fest. The Chiefs will have the home field advantage in a very friendly stadium and the Chargers defense is slightly worse on the road. Look for Smith to have the advantage here in what is the highest scoring game of these 3 games.

  • Mitchell Trubisky, CHI (@DET)Certainly NOT a safe pick by any means, this pick only shows how bad the situation at QB is in this 3-game slate, Rivers and Smith will both be highly owned. Detroit has Darius Slay one of the top cornerbacks in the league who can shut down top tier WR's. Bad news for Detroit is that the Bears don't have a WR1 or maybe even a WR2, they have a hodge podge mess of wide receivers and Darius Slay will surely shut down one of them on each snap but that just makes reads easier for Trubisky who can now ignore whoever Slay is on. After a slow start Trubisky has seen 30+ pass attempts in 5 of the last 6 games and Vegas has this as a competitive game at a 44 point over/under and the Lions only favored by 5.5 points.

RB:

  • Melvin Gordon, LAC (@KC)Gordon has been the most consistent running back out of the top tier of RBs for this small slate and seems like the safest best to have a good game. Kansas City has found a way to shut down Rivers over the years but Gordon has gotten the job done in these division matchups. He's seen 19+ carries in each of the last 4 weeks, and has performed better on the road this season. The quickest way to quiet down the folks at Arrowhead Stadium will be to get Gordon some early big runs.

  • C.J. Anderson, DEN (@IND)Denver has given Anderson 2 straight games of 15+ carries, after it looked like they were trying to hand over the reigns to Booker. The Colts have the 24th ranked defense versus the running back over the season, giving up 101 years and .8 touchdowns per game. Anderson won't get all of the carries but he's considerably cheaper than the other running backs, should see the bulk of carries and has a good matchup.

TE

  • Hunter Henry, LAC (@KC)In this slate of games, the choice at TE is between Kelce and Henry. As the cheaper option of the two, Henry has been just about as productive as Kelce over his last 3 weeks with 2 TDs, 20 targets and no fewer than 50 yards in any game. Kelce has had 2 TDs, 25 targets and over 200 yards in that same stretch. Neither matchup is horrible, as both opponents have given up good games to tight ends recently. These two TEs are playing much better than the other options in this slate, and it seems close enough between the two to make the value play with Henry.

DEFENSE:

  • Denver Broncos (@IND)The Broncos defense hasn’t been great recently, but hopefully the shut out last week and the nationally-televised game will get them up for this easy matchup with the Colts. The Colts get sacked more than any other team, and it’s really not that close, so one would think Von Miller would have himself a day. Their run defense is still elite, so if their offense can put up some points, the Broncos should have plenty of opportunities to get to Jacoby Brissett.

  • Detroit Lions (vs CHI)I get it, playing the defense against the Bears didn’t work out so well last week. In this slate, however, there aren’t many options, and no matter what happened last week da Bears are still da Bears. These teams met week 11 in Chicago, and the Lions D was able to put up 9 points which is serviceable. This week they’ll get to play them at home so one would expect a little uptick there. Also, Trubisky is coming off of his first 2 TD game as a professional, and the fact that he just had his first 2 TD game shows it’s not likely to repeat itself.

INJURIES TO WATCH:

  • Kendall Wright, CHI - Shoulder, limited in practice, likely to play

  • Adam Shaheen, CHI - Chest, limited in practice, likely to play

  • Hunter Henry, LAC - Knee, limited practice, same as last week, will play

  • Donte Moncrief, IND - Ankle, won’t play

  • Frank Gore, IND - Rest/Hand, didn’t practice, likely to play but could see fewer touches after 36 carries 4 days prior to the game and his age

  • Paxton Lynch, DEN - Ankle, didn’t practice, unlikely to play
